Pakistan so far has rebuffed all US attempts to directly assist its forces in its war against terrorism despite best efforts by the Obama administration, a media report said on Monday. "Pakistan has accepted US money, weaponry and limited training, but has rebuffed further US efforts to assist its forces," The Washington Post said in a report.

Pakistan's parliament on Monday endorsed a move to enforce Islamic laws in the restive northwestern Swat valley, which is largely controlled by the Taliban, and asked President Asif Ali Zardari to accord approval to the measure to usher in peace across the country.The National Assembly or lower house of the parliament adopted a resolution recommending that President Zardari should accord approval to the Nizam-e-Adal Regulation to implement Shariah or Islamic laws in Swat.

The Union government gives debt and interest relief under the debt consolidation and relief facility to the states, which meet their targets set by Fiscal Responsibility and Budgetary Management acts. As part of the second stimulus package, states were allowed to deviate from their FRBM targets by 0.5 percentage points to go for a higher fiscal deficit of 3.5 per cent to incur additional capital expenditure to counter the slowdown in the economy of their states.
