Investment bankers' fees to manage IPOs jump as issue size shrink in 2023

The fees charged by investment banks to manage initial public offerings (IPOs) have increased to an average 3.23 per cent of the issue size this calendar year, the highest since 2020. The average fee is up 8 per cent compared to last year, when it stood at 2.99 per cent. The investment banking fees have increased as the average IPO size has shrunk this year.

The newly-appointed Governor Raghuram Rajan said on Wednesday Reserve Bank of India will offer a window to banks to swap the fresh FCNR-B dollar funds, mobilised for a minimum tenor of three years and over, at a fixed rate of 3.5 per cent per annum. According to Bank of America Merrill Lynch, "the move should fetch $8-10 billion", adding that the move would help in shifting rupee risks away from NRIs at a time of extreme volatility.

Credit-to-deposit (CD) ratio of major public sector and private sector banks during the October-December quarter of FY24 inched up as compared to the previous quarter though government-owned lenders reported a lower rate than their private peers. CD ratio is the ratio of the funds that banks lend as compared to the funds raised in the form of deposits. The CD ratio of top public sector banks (PSBs) - State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda and Canara Bank - was lower than their private counterparts.
