Railways on Wednesday said the sudden flow of water on the tracks caused the derailment of the two trains while they were crossing the swollen Machak river near Harda in Madhya Pradesh.
The maintenance of track is increasingly becoming mechanised and capital-intensive.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on wednesday said that track washout due to a swollen Machak river led to the derailment of Kamayani Express and Janata Express at Harda in Madhya Pradesh.
Nearly 25 passengers were so far reported injured after two trains derailed while crossing a swollen Machak river near Harda in Madhya Pradesh even as rescue operations continued, officials said on Wednesday.
Over 250 passengers have been rescued, a railway official said.
