It made the observation while deciding to keep the Gujarat high court advocate association's plea pending which has sought a direction to the Centre to implement the Supreme Court collegium's recommendations on the transfer of Bombay high court judge Justice Akil Kureshi.
Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud has agreed to meet the Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association on November 21 in view of the ongoing protest by lawyers opposing the Supreme Court collegium's recommendation to transfer Justice Nikhil S Kariel to Patna high court.
CJI Chandrachud met the delegations in the presence of two other members of the collegium -- Justice SK Kaul and Justice MR Shah.
The sources indicated that the government was not averse to elevating Justice Kureshi as the chief justice of some other high court.
