Former president Dr Abdul Kalam has accepted an invitation of the Canada-India Foundation (CIF) to be the chief guest at their gala dinner on April 18 at Toronto's 'Liberty Grand' when this newly minted advocacy group will award Sam Pitroda their 'Chanchlani Global Indian Award'. The award will be in the form of a unique trophy accompanied with $50,000 that will go to the charity of the award recipient's choice, said CIF Convener Ajit Someswar.
The award, announced by Canada India Foundation on Tuesday, carries $225,000 and citation.
The Canada-India Foundation wants to establish a public policy center in India along the lines of the one it established last year at the University of Waterloo. Two million dollars of the $10 million endowment came from Vasdev Chanchlani, co-founder, Sigma System, Toronto.

India is expected to be well represented at the Canada India Foundation's Canada India Mining and Metals Forum 2010 September 27 to 29 in Toronto.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ontario Premier David McGuinty were likely to be present on the occasion, he said.
