Controversial Madras high court Judge Justice C S Karnan, who recently 'stayed' the CJI's order transferring him, has been directed to join the Calcutta high court on or before March 11.
The Supreme Court on Monday held that Tamil Nadu government has no right to appoint advocate Bhawani Singh as special public prosecutor to appear in Karnataka High Court for J Jayalalithaa's disproportionate assets case.
While posting the matter for hearing on Thursday, the bench said: "We are conscious that we should not usurp the jurisdiction of the concerned trial court".

A bench of Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justices R Banumathi and U U Lalit fixed the contempt plea for hearing on Monday when the plea alleged that by terming the execution as "judicial killing", Kumar and others have committed contempt of the court which had delivered the verdict.
The judge passed the order on the plea by the convicts seeking adjournment of the executions 'sine die'. The four were scheduled to be hanged on February 1 at 6 am. This is for the second time that the execution of the death warrants has been deferred.

Setting aside the Delhi high court's September 30 verdict denying bail to Chidambaram, the apex court said he is neither a "flight risk" nor there is a possibility of "his abscondence from the trial". Chidambaram had moved the apex court challenging the high court verdict.
Citing 'frail' health, Chidambaram also said he is not 'accustomed' to food given to him in the jail and has lost 4 kg weight during judicial custody.

The fourth convict, Pawan Gupta, has not filed a curative petition, which he still can if he chooses.
The Supreme Court on Thursday turned down a plea seeking its intervention to pass judgment on Jallikattu before Saturday. The top court said it was "unfair to ask the bench to pass order" on the matter.

The ED told the apex court that during the investigation it found Chidambaram had 11 'immovable properties' and 17 bank accounts abroad and his custodial interrogation was required to unearth the larger conspiracy in the case.
The apex court said the death row convicts failed to point out 'error apparent on the face of record' in the judgment.

"The fact is that after 106 days of pre-trial incarceration there is not a single charge framed against me as I speak now," said Chidambaram, who is expected to attend the Rajya Sabha proceedings on Thursday.

The HC enhanced the life term of three convicts -- Vikas and Vishal Yadav to 30 years imprisonment and 25 years incarceration to Sukhdev Yadav alias Pehalwan.
The chargesheet names 14 accused, including the Congress leader's son Karti Chidambaram, Peter Mukherjea and Indrani Mukerjea.
