Four persons, including two Army soldiers and two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit, were killed and three security men wounded in a night-long gunfight that ended on Wednesday morning in South Kashmir.
An encounter broke out on Wednesday between militants and security forces in Awanitpora area of south Kashmir's Pulwama district but no casualties have been reported so far.
The LeT's self-styled 'divisional commander' Ahmed Atto, alias Abu Yasir, and his wife Shabrina Bano, also a terrorist, were killed at Khandepura, near Gundna in Doda district on Wednesday afternoon
On a tip off about the presence of LeT terrorist Abu Hamza in Kurar village of Bonjwah tehsil, 26 Rashtriya Rifles and police laid a cordon of the area, official sources said. During the search operation, terrorists fired on the operation party, who retaliated and in the ensuing gun battle that continued for four hours the terrorist was shot dead.
Two militants of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba outfit were killed in a fierce encounter in south Kashmir Pulwama district on Sunday evening, a defence spokesman said.
A defence spokesman said the incident happened when 34 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) started a jungle operation in Rangwar near the famous health resort of Tangmarg.
Security forces surrounded the mosque and cordoned off the area.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Rajouri, Farooq Khan told UNI that army personnel of 43 Rashtriya Rifles along with state police, acting on a tip-off, cordoned off Raina Mohalla of Thanamandi for search operations.
The award was received by Corporal Nirala's wife Sushmanand and his mother Malti Devi at the majestic Rajpath.
"As the troops moved in, they came under heavy fire from the militants hiding in a house. Reinforcements were immediately rushed to the area and the house was surrounded," a senior police officer said in Srinagar.
An encounter with militants was continuing in Baramulla.
Colonel G S Sarna was killed in the encounter.
Abu Umar, who coordinates the militant outfit's operations in the country, was killed during a search operation by police and Rashtriya Rifles personnel, which took place in Banderwah area of the district early on Wednesday morning.
The terrorist, identified as Ali Baba, was shot dead in Baramulla.
The police identified the Hizbul commander as Suhail Afzal, the divisional commander of the Hizbul Mujajhideen, who topped the list of most wanted militants
Captain Bhoopendra Singh had also provided wrong information to his superiors and the police about the recovery made during the staged encounter, the charge sheet filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police before the chief judicial magistrate in Shopian said.
The encounter broke out when troops confronted a group of militants trying to sneak into the valley from across the border.
