A fact-finding team of MPs and MLAs from the Left parties and the Congress, which arrived in Agartala on Friday to look into post-poll violence in Tripura, was attacked in Sepahijala district, police said.
The player, a resident of Barrackpore town in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, allegedly forged documents, like Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) and Ration Card, to play for Tripura, they said.
Violent clashes erupted between activists of the ruling BJP and the principal opposition, CPI-M, in different parts of Tripura.
The run-up to the polls, which should have been a humdrum affair, became a cause celebre after it was marred by violence, arrests, sit-ins in far-away Delhi and a Supreme Court intervention asking officials to ensure peaceful polling.
The EC directed the state's Chief Electoral Officer to ensure that wide publicity is given in the polling areas. It also directed the official to inform political parties and contesting candidates about the fresh poll.
The bird flu virus was detected in blood samples of dead birds, from Nadilag village of Bishalgarh subdivision, at the High Security Animal Diseases Laboratory in Bhopal on Wednesday. A red alert has been sounded and import of poultry and eggs from outside the state, including neighbouring Bangladesh, has been banned. Personnel of the Border Security Force and special surveillance teams were keeping vigil in the border areas.
