Samaresh Jung remained true to his nickname 'Goldfinger' and notched up one of India's three gold medals today as the country's shooters continued their dominance at the top of the table by taking their medal count to 17 on day four of the Commonwealth Championships in New Delhi.

India lead the overall tally with nine gold, five silver and three bronze medals. England are second with eight medals.

The Karni Singh ranges continued to resonate with the sound of India's national anthem as Jung and Zakhir Khan clinched the gold medal in 10m air pistol event with a combined score of 1158.

Both, Jung and Zakhir shot identical scores of 579 each.

England's Michael Gault and Nick Baxter bagged the silver with a score of 1137, while Australia's Christopher Roberts and Alfio Casagrande took the bronze after shooting a score of 1127.

The gold rush for India continued in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event with Vijay Kumar getting top honours with a score of 588. Indian shooters swept this event with Gurpreet Singh and Pemba Tamang clinching the silver and bronze medals respectively. While Gurpreet shot a score of 576, Tamang scored 564.

If the men dominated, the women were not too far behind either as Meena Kumari clinched gold in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions, scoring 671.9. Another Indian, Lajja Gauswami settled for the silver with a score of 670.7, while England's Sharon Lee took the bronze medal with 666.8.

However, in the men's double trap event, Mohd Asab missed the gold by just one point, settling for silver with a score of 139. The gold went to England's Steven Scott, who shot 140, while Vikram Bhatnagar took the bronze after falling behind Asab (139) in the best of 10s score.

Gagan Narang had dominated the proceedings on the first two days, clinching both the 10m air rifle team and individual gold medals.

The Indian shooters had won 24 medals in the last edition of the meet and are expectedly dominating the show this time too.
