No official Italian complaint over draw

June 23, 2004 18:18 IST

Italy have not lodged an official complaint about the 2-2 draw between Sweden and Denmark which knocked the Italians out of Euro 2004, a UEFA official said on Wednesday.

"For the moment there is no complaint from Italy," UEFA disciplinary counsel Julien Sieveking told reporters.

Franco Carraro, a member of the UEFA executive committee and president of the Italian soccer federation, hinted that Sweden and Denmark colluded to arrange Italy's exit from Euro 2004 on Tuesday night.

"There is no doubt that the way the Denmark-Sweden game developed shows that the two teams were aiming for a draw. Of course, proof of that is hard to find," Carraro told Italian television.

The 2-2 draw sent Sweden and Denmark into the last eight. Italy, runners-up in 2000, went out despite beating Bulgaria 2-1.
