The Indian Air Force on Friday resumed its rescue operations to airlift as many as 190 people trapped in snow-hit Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Timely action by the Mumbai Air Traffic Control avoided a major air disaster over the Indian Ocean at approximately 6 am on Friday, when two aircraft traveling on the same flight level narrowly missed a collision off the Karwar coast in Karnataka. According to sources, over 500 passengers were traveling on board a Qatar Airways Boeing and a Condor Airlines Airbus, when the two aircraft were heading towards each other at a height of 35,000 feet.
"130 Helicopter Unit -- "The Condors", of the IAF stationed at Jammu yet again undertook a demanding operation of rescuing stranded people from the inaccessible villages of Kishtwar district," a defence statement said on Saturday evening.
"Our house is gone, household goods have perished and all our animals killed. We did not have anything to eat," said Chamail Singh of Rajouri district while showering praise on Indian Air Force for air-dropping food items and other relief material.
