PIX: Police ends Jagan's fast in jail; shifts him to hospital

Police on late on Thursday night broke the five-day-old indefinite hunger strike of YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, at the Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad and got him shifted to a government hospital.

As his health deteriorated, Jagan was shifted to the Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad around 11.50 pm in a bullet-proof vehicle amidst heavy security from the jail.

“A health check-up has been done and his glucose level is decreasing while blood pressure and pulse rate are normal,” a senior jail official told PTI, adding that he was shifted to the hospital for specialised treatment.

Jagan's mother Y S Vijayamma and other party leaders rushed to the jail and subsequently to the hospital.

Amid reports that Jagan may be shifted to hospital, a large number of supporters gathered at the Chanchalguda Jail even as police tightened security around the jail and barricaded roads near it.
