PHOTOS: Heavy rains cripple Mumbai yet again

Heavy rainfall in Mumbai resulted in water-logging in its Sion locality on Wednesday, thereby creating a problem for local residents.

Traffic was crawling in several parts of the megacity because of continuous and heavy rains.

Twitter was abuzz with people complaining about hour-long traffic jams on the Western Express Highway and in different parts of Parel and Santacruz, which are low-lying areas.

Central Railway train services were running late by around 15 to 20 minutes.

"It is causing a lot of problems. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is not doing anything," said local resident Prajakta.

Another resident also criticised the BMC for not taking any measures to clear the water-logging.

"There are a lot of problems. The old people and kids are facing problems in commuting. How do we move on these roads? BMC is not doing anything. When we go to them for help they say that they have sent their workers but nobody comes," added another resident.

Not only the water-logging but people of Mumbai are also facing trouble due to lack of cleanliness in the city.

"The people are disappointed. Children are not able attend schools. The roads are full of holes. Plus, there are tons of garbage everywhere, which is further resulting to an increase of dengue, malaria cases,” says Jagdish, another resident.

“The potholes remain full all the time. People keep on throwing garbage in the potholes. We always have to face this problem during rainfall”, adds another resident Aparna Parvekar.
