The forgery case against Telgi has been filed in connection with three passports which he allegedly procured furnishing forged documents between 1981 and 1997,
CBI sources said.

Telgi applied for and procured the first passport from Bangalore in 1981. He applied for another passport in Bangalore in 1990. In 1992, he reported the loss of his passport and got a duplicate issued from the same office.

Telgi also applied and received a passport in Mumbai in 1996, CBI sources said.

The alleged scamster had almost landed in CBI net when the agency conducted a nationwide probe into passports prepared using forged documents. The probe had led to the seizure of one of Telgi's passports in 1997.

Telgi is currently lodged in the Yerawada Jail of Pune.
