Tehelka case: Ex-BJP chief granted bail

A Delhi court on Monday granted bail to former Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman, accused in Tehelka expose case.

Special Judge I K Kochhar allowed regular bail to Laxman on furnishing a surety and personal bond of Rs 2 lakh. The Central Bureau of Investigation has chargesheeted the former BJP president on July 18, nearly after 15 months of probe into the Tehelka expose for allegedly taking

bribe from representatives of a fictitious armament firm for trying to influence public servants in a weapon deal.

According to the chargesheet, the investigations had disclosed that during a period of around two weeks between December 23, 2000, and January 6, 2001, representatives of web portal Tehelka, who were posing as representatives of a London-based arms company, had met the former BJP chief thrice. They had met two of his personal staff five times during this period, the investigations said.
