The Prime Minister's Office on Thursday denied that several prominent figures, including politicians, have been put under surveillance.
"These reports are baseless, wholly fabricated, factually incorrect and mischievously speculative. These have, therefore, no basis in fact," Sanjay Baru, media advisor to the PM, said in a statement in New Delhi.

Nine politicians, including recently elected Rajya Sabha member Anil Ambani, have been put under surveillance, an English daily said on Thursday.
It named the others as Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan, National Democratic Alliance convenor George Fernandes, Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitley, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, Communist Party of India-Marxist leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet and Subramaniam Swamy.
