Prime Minister Manmohan Singh placed a telephone call to former president Bill Clinton to wish him 'a speedy recovery' and expressed the hope that he will be fit enough shortly to visit India as previously scheduled.

Clinton is recovering from quadruple bypass heart surgery and is currently convalescing in his upstate New York home.

The prime minister said he was pleased that the surgery was a complete success and the former president was recuperating well and that both he and the people of India are looking forward to seeing him back in India soon.

Clinton, in reply, appreciating the prime minister's kindness in calling him and saying he was extremely touched by this gesture said he was looking forward to visiting India again and that he hoped 'to remain engaged in India', and his interest, particularly doing his bit to alleviate the HIV/AIDS pandemic in that country through his Clinton Foundation.
