A 59-year-old man has been arrested in Navi Mumbai for allegedly forging documents to enable the illegal sale of a CIDCO plot reserved for public use, highlighting concerns over land fraud.

Police said the plot in the Koparkhairane area had been reserved by the planning agency City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) for public services and utilities.

However, forged documents were allegedly created for the land, after which it was illegally sold, and even construction activities were carried out on it, they said.

 

Investigation and Arrest

After receiving a complaint, police launched a probe and found out that Prabhakar Atmaram Mhatre, a resident of Nerul village in Navi Mumbai, had allegedly created the fabricated documents and facilitated the illegal sale of the CIDCO plot. He was taken into custody on Wednesday, an official said.

Further investigation into the case is underway, he added.
