The Army Headquarters, located in the heart of Delhi, on Friday looked like a frontier town with everybody, including the top brass, wearing battle fatigues, only with their side arms missing.
Every single man was in combat gear complete with field shoes, web belts and war insignia.
They were following an order from their chief, General J J Singh.
Gen Singh wanted his men to remember that they were liable to be posted to rugged terrain anytime.
"The display of battle fatigues will allow soldiers posted in the capital to express their solidarity with their comrades guarding the frontiers from the high Himalayan ranges to the desert and impenetrable monsoon jungles of the Northeast," a senior officer said.
For four days of the week, the army men wear their normal service dress. On Wednesdays, they come in civies.
But now on, Fridays will mean battle fatigues.
