4 Babbar Khalsa Int men plead guilty in court

Four modules of Sikh separatist group Babbar Khalsa International, arrested for planning to target religious figures, were on Wednesday sentenced to imprisonment already undergone after they pleaded guilty for being member of the banned outfit.

A sessions court convicted Kulwinder Singh, Jaswant Singh, Bikkar Singh and Surender Singh under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Arms Act.

All the four men were arrested by Special Cell of Delhi Police in year 2008 from Punjab and has been in custody since then.

The court sentenced them to the period already spent by them in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on each of them. The names of the four had surfaced during police probe into June 2005 twin blasts at Liberty and Satyam Cinema halls.

Jaswant Singh is a close associate of Jagtar Singh Hawara who, along with two others, were arrested in Punjab for the assassination of the then Chief Minister Beant Singh.

The BKI had planned to target some of the religious leaders in Punjab. It was in this connection that Baljeet Singh, Bikkar Singh and Kulwinder and one Tirlochan Singh were also arrested.

Jaswant was arrested by Punjab police in July, 2005, in a case under the Arms Act and the Explosive Substance Act. When he was in jail, he came in contact with Daya Singh Lahoria, Chief of Khalistan Liberation Force, Tahal Singh and Baljeet Singh Pahu, an alleged smuggler of arms, drugs and fake currency.
