Blast: Ex-Army officers remanded in police custody

Retired army officer Ramesh Shivji Upadhyay and Sameer Kulkarni, arrested by Maharashtra ATS in connection with the September 29 Malegaon blast, were on Wednesday remanded in police custody till November 10 by a local court today.

Upadhyay, a retired army major and founder of Abhinav Bharat, and Kulkarni, a right wing activist, were remanded to police custody till November 10 by the joint civil judge P G Patil, public prosecutor Ajay Misar told reporters outside the court.

While Upadhyay was arrested from Pune, Kulkarni was picked up from Madhya Pradesh [Images]. Both the accused were produced around 1450 hours amidst tight security.

In the Malegaon blast on September 29, six persons were killed and several others were injured.
