Militants killed the two cops they had abducted from a village in the North Kashmir frontier district of Kupwara on Thursday.

The police said the slit throat bodies of the two cops identified as Tariq Ahmad and Nazir Ahmad were recovered from the forest area of Gujar Pati near Sogam in Kupwara district, where the abduction had taken place on Thursday.

Security forces had mounted a massive manhunt to trace the two abducted cops immediately, after the news reached the district headquarters of Kupwara about their disappearance.

Reinforcements were rushed to the jungle area for searches. "The bodies were found in the forest by the police search teams late this afternoon," a senior police officer said.

The cops had gone to Gujar Pati village for a routine investigation yesterday afternoon, when they were abducted reportedly by a group of heavily armed militants.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the killings.
