An army jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a service rifle in Jammu district on Sunday.

Vijay Sohar fired at himself in 4th Signal unit in Birpur area of Jammu district.

After hearing the gunshots, jawans and officers rushed to the barrack and found the jawan in a pool of blood, they said adding, he was rushed to the military hospital where he was declared brought dead.

A family dispute is believed to have led the jawan to commit suicide, they said adding, he had returned from a month-long leave on September 8.

Sohar hails from Atarsi, Madhya Pradesh.

A court of inquiry has been ordered.
