The Congress party on Tuesday reiterated its demand for a ban on the television advertisement in which Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan has been shown claiming that the rate of crime in Uttar Pradesh is less in comparison to other states of the country.

In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Akhilesh Pratap Singh said the 'false and misleading' advertisement should be banned forthwith.

He said UPCC president Salman Khursheed had earlier written to the EC, seeking a ban on the advertisement but no action had been taken so far.

The party also demanded scrapping of alleged re-appointment of several administrative officers of a particular caste after their retirement and giving them important postings in violation of rules.

Singh said the appointments must be cancelled to ensure free and fair elections in the state.
