A militant and a civilian were killed and five others, including three securitymen, were injured in a grenade blast inside a residential house in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Wednesday morning, official sources said.

The sources said troops of 56 battalion of the Border Security Force and police, acting on specific information, launched a house-to-house search operation in Muslamabad in Bandipora on Wednesday morning.

When the search party entered the house of one Ghulam Nabi Zargar, he tried to hurl a grenade on them but the explosive device exploded in his hand killing him on the spot, the sources said.

Two other family members of Ghulam and three BSF personnel were injured in the explosion.

While three BSF personnel were shifted to a nearby camp for medical aid, the injured family members were shifted to SMHS hospital, the sources said.
