In one of the biggest such seizures in recent times, security forces unearthed a huge arms haul, including 60 kg of RDX, nine assault rifles and 11 pistols, at a house in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Sunday, police said.

The recovery was made from specially-built hideouts in the house of one Ghulam Mohammad Teli at Sherabad-Khour village in Pattan, 27 km from Srinagar [Images] on the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway, Deputy Inspector General of Police, north Kashmir B Srinivas told PTI.

He said the house owner, a carpenter by profession, was apprehended during the operation, which was jointly conducted by Rashtriya Rifles and police following specific information.

Sixty kg of RDX were seized during the joint search operation, according to a statement issued by the police headquarters in Srinagar on Sunday evening.

Security forces also recovered nine AK assault rifles, 24 AK magazines, 4406 AK rounds, 11 Chinese pistols, 23 magazines, 154 rounds, four under-barrel grenade launchers, one UBGL round, 100 pika rounds, eight rocket propelled grenade rounds, seven RPG boosters, a hand-grenade, 40 improvised explosive device circuits and 10 IED switches, the statement said.

The DIG said two hideouts behind the walls of the house were busted by the search parties, which led to the recovery of the hidden cache, which also includes 40 electronic detonators, 10 remote control switches and 10 mortars.

Srinivas said it was not immediately known which militant outfit was using the two hideouts for dumping of arms.

"Teli is being questioned. Once his questioning is complete, a detailed picture will emerge," he said.
