Chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, was taken into preventive custody in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir [Images] on Friday, official sources said.

Geelani and four of his associates were taken into custody by the police at Mirgund as he was heading towards Baramulla to address Friday prayers and a public meeting, the sources said.
