Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani was on Tuesday put under house arrest, official sources said.

They said police personnel were deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Geelani on Tuesday morning to prevent him from attending the fourth day fateh of Inayatullah Bhat, who was killed by the Central Reserve Police Force on June 30.

A spokesman of the Hurriyat Conference Ayaz Akbar told UNI that a police officer informed Geelani that he has been put under house arrest for precautionary measures.

The officer informed Geelani that he was not to move out of his residence till further orders, he said.
