Thousands of school children on Friday took to streets protesting against Thursday's grenade attack that left two women dead and at least 46 people injured.

Schools remained closed and shops downed shutters in some areas of the Kashmir valley.

Shafiqa Rashid, and her daughter Asiya were killed when unidentified persons lobbed a grenade outside Tyndale Briscoe School.

About 3,000 students marched from Batwara to Aonawar in the city, raising slogans and decrying the grenade attack in which 14 school children were also hurt.

Residents of Court Road, Maisuma, Budshah Chowk also took to streets and shops and business establishments shut down, sources said.

As police attempts to disperse the protestors peacefully went in vain, they resorted to lathi charge and lobbed teargas shells, the sources said.
