Timely detection of huge quantities of RDX explosives in Bhaderwah town and Kishtwar of Doda district on Tuesday averted a major disaster in Jammu and Kashmir [Images], a top army official said.

Troops recovered 40 kg of RDX in a lake during a routine search in Bhaderwah town, which is surrounded by mountain, he said.

The entire town could have been blown up with a single detonator, he said.

A Road Opening Party of the army detected a powerful nine-kg RDX-fitted improvised explosive device planted by militants in Kishtwar road in Doda in the early hours, he said.

The ROP detonated the explosive device causing a powerful explosion, but without any casualty, the official added.
