Just minutes after Bharatiya Janata Party chief Lal Kishenchand Advani tendered his resignation on Tuesday, the entire top leadership of the party reached his 30 Prithviraj Road residence in New Delhi.

Former BJP chief Venkaiah Naidu and senior leaders Pramod Mahajan and Arun Jaitley were among the first to reach Advani's house.

Hundreds of Advani supporters also gathered outside his residence raising slogans and waving BJP flags.

Advani's resignation was a fallout of his statements in Pakistan praising Mohammed Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.

His statement has come in for sharp criticism from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and its allied bodies.

On Tuesday, former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first to jump to Advani's defence.
