Jammu and Kashmir [Images] rural development minister Peerzada Mohammad Syed had narrowly escaped a bomb blast in Baramulla district on Sunday afternoon, official sources said.

A constable of the state Congress chief's escort vehicle was injured in the attack.

The device planted by militants on the main road at Bumbi-Sopore, 60 km from Srinagar [Images], went off minutes after Peerzada's vehicle passed the road around 4.15pm and hit a police vehicle escorting the minister.

Police and security forces reached the spot and cordoned the area immediately after the incident, the sources said.
