Six Border Security Force personnel were killed when an avalanche struck two posts near the Line of Control in Kupwara sector early Friday.

There were 19 men in the posts in the upper reaches of Farkiyan Gali in Tengdhar when the avalanche, the third this week in Jammu and Kashmir [Images], struck, BSF Deputy Inspector General K Srinivasan said.

The bodies were recovered and one of them was said to be that of Sumir Singh.

The rest were rescued. Five of them had minor injuries and were given medical aid, Srinivasan said.

On Monday, 12 security personnel were killed and five went missing near the Jawahar Tunnel on the Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Three members of a family were killed when their house was hit by another avalanche at Kapran in Anantnag on Tuesday.
