Godhra incident: Banerjee panel gets extension

The government has extended the tenure of the Justice U C Banerjee Committee probing the 2002 Sabarmati Express fire at Godhra station in Gujarat.

The Committee has been given three more months beyond December 4, 2005 deadline, an official statement said on Tuesday.

The panel was constituted by the Ministry of Railways on September 4, 2004 to go into the burning of S-6 coach of
the Sabarmati Express at Godhra station on February 28, 2002.

This is the fifth extension given to the Committee.
