The security forces gunned down nine militants in two incidents in Kashmir on Friday.

In the first incident, an infiltration bid was foiled in the Uri sector and four militants were killed on the Line of Control in Churanda village.

In the second incident, five militants hiding in a house at village Baki Haker in north Kashmir's Kupwara district were gunned down by the security forces.

The troops mortar blasted the house in which the militants were hiding.

Security forces had surrounded the house on a tip-off about the presence of militants.

"As we tried to mount a search operation, the hiding militants fired from their automatics at the advancing parties. The fire was returned," said a police officer.
