Kargil widows: SC notice to ministries

September 06, 2004 12:06 IST

The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Union ministries of defence and petroleum and the Uttar Pradesh government on a Public Interest Litigation alleging that the widows of Kargil martyrs had not yet been given benefits promised by the government immediately after the end of the Kargil war.

The PIL alleged that over 40 per cent of the widows were yet to get the benefits from the government, and that they were running from pillar to post to obtain the same.
