Counterinsurgent abducts infant

June 08, 2004 20:42 IST

Angry over the rejection of his marriage proposal, a counterinsurgent associated with Ikhwan in Jammu and Kashmir abducted the 18-month-old niece of the girl, official sources said on Tuesday.

Rais Ahmad Khan, working with security forces stationed at Khundroo, visited the house of Shabir Ahmad Ganai at Rampora village of Anantnag district on Monday night and abducted his daughter Abroo Shabir, as the family refused to accept his proposal to marry Ganai's sister.

Police were looking for the abductor.
