TRS public meet for Telangana

December 11, 2004 15:16 IST

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti, an ally in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre, will organise a public meeting in Hyderabad on Saturday evening to build a national consensus on the demand for a separate Telangana state.

The `Telangana Praja Garjana' rally, to be held at the Parade Grounds, comes days after the UPA's decision to constitute a sub-committee to examine the demand.

The TRS, which has been mounting pressure on the Centre to commence the process for the creation of Telangana, has invited representatives of 15 political parties to participate in the meeting.

The regional parties that have confirmed participation are the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Progressive Democratic Front, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Forward Block, Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

"We are confident that the Telangana state will become a reality by next year. There is an all-round support to the statehood cause," TRS founder-president and Union Labour Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao told PTI.

Seeking to make light of the friction between his party and the state Congress unit over the issue, Rao said, "No force on earth can stop the formation of Telangana state."
