Heads roll for Uri grenade attack

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar | April 10, 2004 22:08 IST

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday evening gave marching order to the sub-divisional police officer and ordered the suspension of the Uri Station House Officer.

The move came in the aftermath of the powerful explosion at Uri, a border town 100 km from Srinagar in north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

An official spokesman here said that a Special Investigation Team has been constituted to 'investigate all aspects relating to the grenade explosion at Uri on Thursday'.

Eleven people died and 33 injured when unidentified militants attacked the ruling Peoples Democratic Party rally at Uri Thursday afternoon. State Finance Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig was one among the injured.

"The Inspector General of Police has issued orders for attachment of SDPO Uri Zubair Ahmad and suspension of Inspector Mohammad Amin, SHO police station Uri," the government statement read.
