Militants attack police vehicle carrying bodies in J&K

September 07, 2003 16:15 IST

A special police officer was injured on Sunday when militants attacked a police vehicle in Mendhar area of Poonch district, official sources said in Jammu.

The militants hurled a grenade and opened fire at the vehicle, which was carrying the bodies of a forest department official and an SPO, killed on Saturday in an encounter at Gursai, for burial, the sources said.

Though the grenade missed the vehicle, the SPO was injured in the firing that followed even as personnel in the vehicle returned the fire, they said.

In a separate incident, militants on Sunday morning snatched rifles from two Village Defence Committee members in Doda area.
