On October 19, 2000, R Madhavan made his Bollywood debut in Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein.
It was also a first for his leading lady Dia Mirza, Director Gautham Menon and Music Director Harris Jayaraj.
Unfortunately, the film was not a pleasant experience for some team members.
Apparently, Gautham didn't get along with Madhavan and the producer could not see eye to eye with the director.
The film was somehow completed, but the marketing let it down.
Like the film itself, Harris Jayraj's chartbuster songs got their due only in hindsight.
"I don't want to get into what went wrong. But yes, many things did go wrong," Madhavan tells Subhash K Jha.
"All of us worked really hard on the film. Nineteen years later, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein is still among the most favourite films in my repertoire."
Madhavan is not averse to a sequel.
"I keep getting that all the time. But is a sequel possible now? For that to happen, all of us have to be on the same page. I'd love to take the story forward from where we left it off 19 years ago," he says.
Gautham, who also directed the Tamil original Minnale, says, "I don't at all mind directing a sequel to Rehna Hai Terre Dil Mein. If the producers ask me, I will."
