Looking at Kamal Haasan's SUPERSTAR life!

Happy birthday, Kamal Haasan!

The legendary Kamal Haasan dons many hats -- he is an acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, singer, lyricist, choreographer and philanthropist.

He turns 62 on November 7.

We look at his superstar life through his pictures on Facebook.

Named Parthasarathy, Kamal Haasan started acting when he was only five years old.

He won the President’s Gold medal for his heartrending performance as a child artist in his very first film Kalathur Kannamma.

In a career spanning over five decades, he has won three National Awards and 19 Filmfare Awards. He has been honored with the Kalaimamani, the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan and more recently with prestigious French honour Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Kamal’s first film as a lead actor was K Balachander's 1975 film Apoorva Raagangal. The film also marked the debut of superstar Rajinikanth.  
Kamal and Rajinikanth worked together in nearly 10 films before going their separate ways.

Kamal won his first National Award for his brilliant performance as a school teacher in Balu Mahendra's Moondram Pirai (1982), opposite Sridevi.

One of Kamal's best films is Nayagan, Mani Ratnam’s unforgettable crime film in 1987. He won a National award for it.

Kamal made his Hindi debut with the 1981 superhit Ek Duuje Ke Liye, directed by his mentor K Balachander.

The actor is known for his comic timing in blockbusters like Apoorva Sagodharargal, Avvai ShanmughiPammal K Sambandam and Panchathantiram.

Kamal is the youngest child in his family. His older brothers -- Charuhasan and Chandrahasan -- are lawyers. His sister Nalini is a classical dancer.

With more than 200 films to his credit, the actor continues to rule the film industry with an unbeatable passion.

Kamal holds the distinction of being the only actor with the highest number of films submitted by India for the Academy Award Best Foreign Language Film.

Shankar's vigilante film Indian had him in a dual role.

Kamal has been a successful producer with films like the Tamil-Hindi bilingual Hey! Ram, Virumaandi and the controversial Vishwaroopam, which turned out to be highest grossing film of 2013.

At the age of 24, Kamal married dancer Vani Ganapathy.

He married actress Sarika in 1988 and the couple have two daughters, Shruti and Akshara. They divorced in 2004.

Shruti has become a popular actress, who has made a name for herself in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi cinema.

The actor got into a relationship with actress Gautami Tadimalla (with whom he had done several films in the 1980s and 1990s) in 2005.

Gauthami announced their split just days before his birthday.

Kamal is currently working on a spy comedy titled Sabaash Naidu, which is being made in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.  

The actor has also written the screenplay and is directing the film. His elder daughter Shruti plays a significant role in it.
