Taj Mahal, the Kannada movie written and directed by debutant Chandru, does not boast of a charismatic hero or a well-known music director. What it does boasts of is its popular songs.

The film too is certainly very well-made film and is sure to appeal with its beautiful visuals and message-oriented narration.

Director Chandru has shown that he has loads of talent by the superb way he has handled the rather thin story line. The first sequence of the film itself depicts how talented he is. He has been able to get best performances from even artists who are seen only once on the screen.

Taj Mahal [Images] blends pure romance with a right portion of sentiment and a bit of humour. And it is ably complimented by its excellent music and brilliant cinematography. The film also underlines the importance of parents' contribution to the future of their children, and how such an important factor is missed out by today's youngsters.

It is difficult to narrate the story of the film as it has too many twists and turns and any briefing on the story is sure to spoil the curiosity value of the film. Suffice to say that the film revolves around Ajay, who is in love with a rich girl, Shruthi. However, the love is one-sided.

Performance-wise, Ajay has come out with his best till date. The actor, who made a very good first impression with Prem's Excuse Me, has bounced back with this powerful performance. Pooja Gandhi looks stunning and has worked hard to give a very strong performance. Rangayana Raghu is impressive in a restrained performance.  Anant Nag, Padmaja Rao and Suresh Mangalore have also delivered very good performances.

Need we say anything more about Abhiman's music? Kushiyaagide is the pick of the lot. Chandrasekhar's photography is another highlight. The art work is also exceptional.

Taj Mahal is one of the best films in Kannada in recent times.
