India to export $6 bn textiles to US

Enthused by substantial growth in cotton apparel exports since dismantling of quota system in January 2005, India expects their exports to the United States to become nearly three times from the present $2.30 billion to $6 billion this fiscal.

"The Indian apparel factories are fully geared to capture any demand," A Sakthivel, apparel export promotion council chairman said, adding the expectations that India's exports to the US would take on substantial growth from the existing level of $2.30 billion to $6 billion.

India's exports of cotton ladies blouses to the US increased by 12.5 per cent, followed by whooping 40 percent growth in cotton shorts and trousers, cotton gents shirts grew at 39.5 per cent, he said.
