India's largest information technology firm Tata Consultancy Services on Wednesday said it would increase headcount in the next financial year and explore both the organic and inorganic routes for growth.

"We would increase our headcount from the present 43,000. However, the decision is still in the planning stage," TCS managing director S Ramadorai told reporters here but refused to specify any numbers.

He said TCS was actively looking at strengthening its global presence.

"Nothing specific is on the table yet, but we will look at technology areas," Ramadorai said on the sidelines of a function organised to award the company an e-governance project of the Ministry of Company Affairs.

"As an industry, we will like to have strong global presence without too much dependence on one part of the world," he said.

Taking note of the growing demand, TCS is mulling to increase its presence in the European and Chinese markets, he said, adding the company has already set up a strong merger and acquisition group, which is constantly looking at opportunities available in the market.

On the industry's expectations from this year's Budget, he said the industry would benefit from rationalisation of the entire tax system in the country.

"For the IT sector, I hope the government would reduce the customs duty on PCs," he said.
