Government on Monday extended the last date for filing income tax returns for 2002-03 to September 30.
The extension is despite the provisions in the Income Tax Act envisaging that annual returns for tax deducted at source under various sections of the Act are to be furnished at the end of April, May or June of the financial year.
"This (extension of last date) has been done in order to give effect to certain proposals contained in the Finance Act of 2003 relating to filing of returns of TDS," the finance ministry said in a statement.
