Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd Employees Union on Friday extended support to the proposed indefinite strike of employees of public sector oil companies against privatisation of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.

"The Cabinet decision to privatise HPCL and BPCL is nothing short of compromising national security interest," the Union said in a statement in New Delhi.

Oil Sector Officers' Association, a representative body of trade unions in public sector oil companies, had on Thursday said that oil PSUs would go on indefinite strike the day government invites bids for selling its stake in HPCL.

Instead of privasiting loss making PSUs as was promised, the government is actually privatising big profitable PSUs by handing them over to private companies for 10 per cent of their value, it alleged.

"BSNL Employees Union fully support the strike of workers of oil PSUs and call upon the entire BSNL workers to organise demonstrations on the day the strike starts and express solidarity with the striking workers," the statement said.
