Sensex gains 10 points to 6,545

The market displayed volatility during the intra-day trades on Tuesday.

After touching a high of 6,574 and a low of 6,508, the Sensex gained 10 points to close at 6,545 on late buying in select old and new economy stocks. The Nifty ended flat at 2,055.

While 17 Sensex stocks advanced, 10 declined today. Advancing shares registered a volume of 47 lakh for Rs 290.36 crore, and declining shares accounted for a volume of 79 lakh amounting to Rs 368.06 crore.

Reliance closed up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 533. Infosys, after a mixed outing, closed up a per cent (Rs 12) at Rs 2,041. Wipro also ended with a steady gain of Rs 5 at Rs 692.

HDFC Bank surged 2.49% (Rs 14) to Rs 575, and ICICI Bank ended with a per cent gain (Rs 3) at Rs 363. SBI, however, shed 1.17% (Rs 7) to Rs 635.

HPCL was up a per cent (Rs 3) at Rs 359. HDFC jumped 3.47% (Rs 27) to Rs 820. While Hindalco added 1.16% (Rs 16) to Rs 1,381, Reliance Energy is up a epr cent (Rs 5) at Rs 575.

Bajaj clocked a per cent gain (Rs 11) to Rs 1,075, and Maruti moved up nearly 2% (Rs 8) to Rs 467. While Hero Honda ended a per cent lower (Rs 4) at Rs 530, Tata Motors was down a tad at Rs 492.

ACC was up 1.12% (Rs 4) at Rs 370, and Grasim was up a rupee at Rs 1,342. Gujarat Ambuja, however, ended lacklustre at Rs 453 - down Rs 2.

While ITC lost a per cent (Rs 10) to Rs 1,321, HLL was down a rupee at Rs 161.

Cipla ended lower by 1.48% (Rs 4) at Rs 274, while Ranbaxy slipped a per cent (Rs 11) to Rs 1,050. Dr. Reddy's, however, added 1.14% (Rs 8) to Rs 735.

Bharti dropped 2.67% (Rs 6) to Rs 215.
