Having signed up teen tennis sensation Sania Mirza as brand ambassador for its Getz model, Hyundai Motor India on Monday said it would hike the production capacity of the model to 3,400 units a month by next year.
The company is also preparing to introduce its new model MC-Series, to be positioned between mid-sized sedan Accent and top end model Sonata, by August-September next year.
"At present, we are producing around 1,400 Getz per month, but we have plans to go for capacity expansion of the line II to add another 2,000 unit cars in April-June next year," HMI president BVR Subbu told reporters in New Delhi.
Hyundai to hike Accent, Getz prices
"We are planning for capacity expansion in a phased manner over a period of six to nine months," he said.
The hike in capacity is in expectation of better sales after HMI roped in Mirza as a brand Ambassador for its Getz model for a span of three years.
Sania would endorse the Getz in all Hyundai promotions during the contract period, Subbu said. This is in line with the company's strategy of signing popular figures to promote its brand. Hyundai has Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta as its brand Ambassadors for Santro.
He said although there would be a price hike for Getz this week, there would be no price correction for Hyundai's SUV models.
He, however, did not coment on whether the new model would replace the existing model Elantra in the class.
