This is the first time that a CDMA operator is providing the flexibility for customers to choose handsets of his/her choice.
World over, CDMA operators provide handsets with pre-activated numbers. The new kit will be available for both pre-paid as well as post-paid subscribers.
S P Shukla, president for wireless products and services of Reliance Infocomm, said: "The GSK has been indigenously developed at Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City in association with various global handset suppliers. Now, customers can enjoy the flexibility of buying any Reliance-ready handset in the open market."
Shukla said handsets can also be purchased from the second-hand markets. "Of late, many RIM subscribers have begun to upgrade their handsets. So a huge stock of used handsets is available in the second-hand market," he said.
